In 10th grade Systrom transferred to the Middlesex School in Concord. “He was just a super, super friendly, nice kid,” Ryan said. ![]() His first year on the team, Systrom was named rookie of the year. “He was never late, not Kevin,” said Holliston High School cross country coach Phil Ryan, who has coached for 38 years. His high school track coach still remembers running with tall, lanky Systrom. “Even me as a stay-at-home mom, it's like, wow, I can do what I want to do and quite possibly achieve something great, too,” she said. Systrom on Monday announced the sale of his company to Facebook for $1 billion. “He would always show me these cool new things that I had no idea about,” said Will Jonassen, who took an introductory computer programming class with Systrom in eighth grade at Holliston High School. The Holliston native moved to California 10 years ago, but locals yesterday vividly recalled Kevin Systrom, the co-creator of Instagram.
